Who doesn't love a good game? Games are a great way of introducing new skills and reviewing familiar skills because they take the pressure and focus off of student acheivement and preconceived ideas about "good" and "bad" and put the focus on having a good time! Games also provide an opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them in a light-hearted environment rather than stress over every slight faux pas. Fear of making mistakes is one inhibitor to learning because often the greatest opportunities for growth and development are in correcting mistakes, rather than avoiding them altogether.
These reasons (and because I'm a big kid at heart) are why I've recently acquired a few new games and activities for the studio, as pictured below. I'm looking forward to using them in lessons starting this fall!
